Smart Grid Services
CURRENT’s open standards, IP based solution provides sensing technology, two-way high-speed communications, 24/7 monitoring and analytic software and related services to deliver location-specific, real-time actionable data. Unlike alternative technologies that are often focused on managing only a limited number of components on the electric distribution system, CURRENT’s networks and technologies serve as the infrastructure for utilities to monitor and control the thousands or even millions of devices in the electric distribution grid.
CURRENT Smart Grid™ software is designed to collect, store and analyze data, and provide automated notification and report generation directly to the engineer’s desktop. The software provides a single platform for the collection and warehousing of Smart Grid data. This web-based system includes a broad set of automated intelligent decision support tools for asset management, system protection, operation, planning, and customer service.
Communications and In-Home Energy Management Services
Using its Broadband over Power Line (BPL) technology, CURRENT can provide high-speed Internet based services over the same network as its Smart Grid services. Data, voice and video services can be delivered to residential and business users both directly and through wholesale channels. Utilities can also provide access information to customers about their electric usage and allow customers to manage thermostats and other devices.
CURRENT network solutions are designed to meet the increasing expectations and requirements of consumers and provide a superior end user experience, including:
- High Performance, Reliability and Security — CURRENT’s system is designed utilizing the IP based technology with today’s user in mind to maximize performance, reliability and security. This provides users with a superior system, often avoiding the reduced bandwidth or slow service experienced with other competing existing networks. In addition, CURRENT has the ability to provide quality of service solutions and remotely troubleshoot the network.
- Ease of Use — By using existing electrical wiring, CURRENT Broadband® service is as easy to use as plugging a power cord into an electric outlet. Additional computers can be added simply by plugging in another modem, eliminating the complexity of a home network or routers.
- Faster Uploads — CURRENT Broadband users can send data up to 10 times faster than typical DSL or cable modem service offered today. This is especially important as users are increasingly playing interactive games, using high-bandwidth, web-based applications and sending significant volumes of digital content to the Internet, including pictures, videos or music.
