Senior Utility Executive to focus on CURRENT’s Smart Grid Solution

GERMANTOWN , MARYLAND– February 1, 2007 - CURRENT today announced that David Zabetakis has joined the company as the senior executive in charge of Business Development, reporting to Chief Executive Officer, Tom Casey. David will have responsibility for leading the company’s growth initiatives with electric utilities with specific attention to Smart Grid applications worldwide.

“David has twenty years of utility experience focused on serving customers. We are excited to have David in a leadership role working with utilities to expand the use of the Smart Grid,” said Tom Casey. “We believe that a Smart Grid provides significant benefits to the utility, its consumers and the environment and we continue to invest significant resources on our Smart Grid solution.” A Smart Grid will reduce energy demand and the need for more power plants, improve reliability by creating a self-healing distribution network capable of matching supply with demand, efficiently manage peak loads, minimize power disruptions, secure critical infrastructure assets, and ensure high-quality power. The Electric Power Research Institute projects that Smart Grid-enabled distribution systems in the U. S. could reduce electricity consumption by 5% to 10%, carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25%, and the costs of power-related disturbances to business by 87%.

“Utilities face a number of new challenges including an increasing emphasis on efficiency, reliability, customer service and the environment,” said David Zabetakis, “I am excited by the opportunity to join a company such as CURRENT that is using advanced technology and the power of real time knowledge to help utilities meet these challenges.” David previously served as an electric utility industry consultant and as the President and Chief Operating Officer Home and Small Business Group of Pepco Energy Services, Inc., where he oversaw Pepco Energy Services Inc.’s retail business, primarily focusing on the sale of electricity, natural gas and a variety of energy-related products. Prior to joining Pepco Energy Services, Inc., David participated in one of the first deregulated electricity markets when he served as Vice President for Marketing and Sales at New Hampshire’s Unitil Corporation and helped create the company’s competitive affiliate Unitil Resources, Inc.
